Your information, treated with care
Privacy & POPIA.
This notice explains how Lia’s Montessori Pre-School & Daycare handles personal information under South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).
Last updated: 25 October 2026
Who is responsible?
Lia’s Montessori Pre-School & Daycare is responsible for the personal information described here. Contact our Information Officer at aaliaparuk8@gmail.com or 084 593 7861, or write to 19 Helwin Street, Shallcross, Durban, 4093.
Information we collect
When you enquire, visit or enrol, we may collect a parent or guardian’s name and contact details, and a child’s name, age, date of birth and enrolment details. Where needed for safe care, we may also collect emergency contacts, collection authorisations, attendance, billing information, and relevant health, allergy or medical information.
The website enquiry form only uses the details you enter. Please do not include sensitive medical or identity information in a website enquiry.
Why we use information
We collect only information we reasonably need to:
- respond to enquiries and arrange school visits;
- process applications, enrolment, attendance and accounts;
- provide safe care and communicate with parents or guardians;
- contact authorised people in an emergency or for collection; and
- meet legal, regulatory, insurance and record-keeping obligations.
Website enquiries and third parties
This website has no user accounts, analytics, advertising trackers or enquiry database. Choosing WhatsApp or email opens that service with your message prepared; nothing is sent until you send it there. WhatsApp and your email provider then process it under their own privacy terms, which may include processing outside South Africa.
Our map link opens Google Maps only when you choose it. Our hosting provider may process standard technical logs, such as IP addresses and browser details, to deliver and secure the website. We do not use these logs for advertising.
Children’s information and photographs
We ask for a parent or legal guardian’s authorisation where required and only collect children’s information needed for education, care, safety or legal responsibilities.
We ask permission before using identifiable photographs for school publicity. You may withdraw permission for future publicity use; material already printed or published may not always be recoverable. This choice does not affect enrolment or care.
Sharing, retention and security
We do not sell personal information. We may share necessary information with authorised school staff, service providers supporting our operations, medical or emergency personnel, professional advisers, or authorities where legally required.
We keep information only as long as needed for its purpose, our relationship with your family, and legal or accounting requirements. We use reasonable safeguards appropriate to the information, but no electronic service or storage system is guaranteed completely secure.
Your POPIA rights and choices
Subject to POPIA, you may ask whether we hold your information, request access, or ask us to correct or delete information that is inaccurate, excessive, out of date, misleading or unlawfully obtained. You may also object to certain processing or withdraw consent where our use relies on consent.
Contact our Information Officer using the details above. We may need to verify your identity and, for a child’s record, your authority to act. We may retain information where the law requires it. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing already lawfully completed.
If you believe your information has been misused, please contact us so we can investigate. You may also complain to South Africa’s Information Regulator at POPIAComplaints@inforegulator.org.za or visit the Information Regulator website.
